Tasting Notes

Mavrud is believed to have the greatest potential of Bulgaria's indiginous varietals, particularly because of its affinity for oak aging. The Elenovo reserve spends 18 month in French oak barriques. The nose is dark and compact, of blackberry, boysenberry, mulberry, forest floor, allspice, and cinnamon. The texture has silky tannins and a body loaded with ripe black fruit.

Winemaking

Single vineyard Mavrud made from carefully selected handpicked grapes grown on the estate of the winery near Elenovo village in south-east Bulgaria. Aged 18 months in 500L Bulgarian oak barrels and then a minimum 6 months in the bottle. Only 4,400 bottles made.
